My Grandpa Will Be Missed
My Grandpa passed away last weekend. Only three weeks prior did our family have any inkling of any problems with his health. I'm blessed as I made it to the hospital to have one final hand squeeze before he was too weak to manage much more. His sense of humor (he was a jolly, funny man!), his leadership (a pastor for more than 30 years), and his presence will be missed.
While my grandparents "retired" just down the road in Montgomery, he lived in the Dallas area most of my childhood. So when he would come to visit me as a kid in Pearland, our running joke was that, out of 21 grandchildren (yes--21! My mom is one of six kids in a blended family), I was his "favorite grand-daughter...in Pearland." Get it? I was the only grand-daughter in Pearland. Ha! He even kept this favoritism up until recently, when I earned the honor of his "favorite grand-daughter...in Conroe."
I've really been blessed to get to know them better and better over the past few years, spending time with them more than I was able to as a kid because they live right up the road now. Together, he and my Grandma have visited the hospital when my boys were born, attended birthday parties, celebrated holidays with us, and even babysit several times. This among just regular everyday visits has made a really nice relationship.
Please keep my Grandma in your prayers, as well as my mom and all the family.
