Conversations With Dash

Communicating with Dash, is by far, one of my favorite "hobbies" right now. I love that he is picking up all sorts of words, saying long sentences, learning grammar, and just saying some really cute stuff. It's quite amazing actually how he is learning to use first/third person and build his sentences. Maybe it's just me being a wordsmith myself (or a proud mom!), but I love seeing his communication blossom and his sweet spirit emerge.

Here are a few of my favorite conversations so far...

Conversation #1:

Background: We were discussing Daddy and why he had to stay at the fire station and thus, couldn't come home with us.

Mommy: "Daddy has to stay at the fire station and help people."
Dash: "(Like when) People fall down?"
Mommy: "Yes, Daddy has to help people when they fall down."
Dash: "They fall down and hit their heads?"
Mommy: "Yes, Daddy has to help people when they fall down and hit their heads."
Dash: "Make them feel better?"
Mommy: "Yes, Daddy makes them feel better." (Oh how we all wish it were that simple...)

Conversation #2:

Background: I had just walked out of our bedroom all dressed up (in a maxi-dress, mind you) ready to go to a wedding.

Dash: "What's that?" (pointing to my dress)
Mommy: "It's my pretty dress."
Dash: "A dress to dance in?"
Mommy: "Yes, It's a pretty dress for me to dance in at the wedding."
Dash: "Dash dance too?"
Mommy: "Are you going to dance with Mommy?"
Dash: "Yessssss!!!" (Melted my heart...)

Conversation #3:

Background: I was just leaving Dash's room after having tucked him in for the night. He was making some noises or doing something unusual--clearly trying to fight off sleep. I, of course, was trying to ignore that part.

After making a noise, Dash asked me for the zillionth time in a cheerful voice: "Dash funny?"
Mommy: "Yes, Dash, you are a very silly boy. Now go to sleep."
Dash (Now, in a super-serious tone): "No, Mommy--Dash funny."

Playing semantics at two...geez...

Conversation #4:

Ok, so this is not so much of a conversation as a list of stall tactics now being used by Dash during nap time. When do kids learn how to stall? (Well, I guess it's about 2 1/2!)

"I went stinkies." or "I went poop!" (And of course, this is incorrect. And so you can truly visual, he says "Poop!" with such gusto, announcing each "p" with a pop!

"Pee-pee in the potty!" (He never ever wants or needs to go except suddenly at nap time...hmmm...)

"Last book!" (I try to set a 3 book limit, cause honestly, both him and I love reading so much, that we'd both do it a lot longer than we need to right before nap time. So at Book No. 3, I always say "Last Book," as sort of the warning. Well, he's picked on this, and now it's his turn to try and squeeze at least one more in. And he usually does...)

"Pet me." (This is his words for "tickle me/rub me.")

"Let's talk, Mommy." (As in, "let's talk about my day." Seriously. When did he get so old?!)

And my personal favorite, no words at all---just a full sprint into another room, slamming the door behind him as he hides!
