Conversations With Dash--RecordKeeping

If you're looking for a great way to keep up with your little one's antics--whether they be funny conversations, milestones, memorable events, or just loving thoughts from a loving mom, I highly recommend the "One Line a Day: A Five-Year Memory Book" (available on Amazon).

The journal spans five years and is separated by date. For instance, every entry for "April 16" is on the same page. This is neat, as you can look back each year to see what your child/family was doing that day.

So each day, you record what you want to remember or recall. The spaces are small--perfect for a quick blurb, leaving no room for rambling. (I can use my blog for that.) It's like a twitter account for those who still love pen and paper--me!

For instance, today's entry in Tad's book could be: "Tried to write about how much I love writing about you, but it took me an hour and a half to finish this note cause you kept waking up!" : )

I've got one for each child, and I think that five years down the road when the journals are filled with tales, thoughts, funny sayings, family events, and my general thoughts on why they are the best/cutest/loviest children ever, I'll be glad I invested 5 minutes each night to jot something down.

And if keeping up with a journal sounds too overwhelming for a busy mom, here's a tip: I keep my journals on my nightstand with a pen handy. So right before bed (while the DVR is finding the lastest episode of "The Office" or "DC Cupcakes," or while my iPhone is loading my BeJeweled account), I take time to write down something for each child. And yes, I do admit to skipping a few nights here and there, but I usually catch-up, filling those blank spots with something for my boys to read later in life.

And I know what you are thinking---"I have a girl! I don't want a blue journal!" Well, then you need the "Mom's One Line a Day: A Five-Year Memory Book." Same exact product, meant for the same purpose--just pink!

Sadly, I was not compensated in any way for this product review, although I should see if this publisher is looking for a "One Line a Day Five-Year Journal" spokesperson.

Let me know what ways you keep track of your kids---and yes, Facebook counts! : )

I like the one sketch a day too. David is now 5 and a vivid artist. I'm constantly trying to figure out a way to create a keepsake with these mountain of drawings. I would love to see his progression each day.

His stick figures of our family have now upgraded to stick figures with nice round bellies :)

Thanks for the great idea. I think I can convince myself that writing one line is manageable - but 3 books, 3 lines, do you think I can handle it? Maybe 1 mommy book full of daily kid-isms would work :)
