The Kissing Hand

Despite having a few good first days of school (I'm referring to drop-off time), Dash has recently reverted to crying hysterical fits, grasping for Mommy or Daddy, and genuinely upset. (We were "those" people last week. You know, the one's whose kid was freaking out and sending shrills down all the other kid's spines. Yes, that was us.)

I wanted some advice to get through this, so I turned to my trusty Google and did a quick search for "dear-jesus-i-need-my-kid-to-not-freak-out-when-i-drop-him-off-of-school-or-i-may-lose-it" or something like that.

A few sites/forums I found suggested books about going to preschool, and since Dash LOVES books and reading and the library, I knew this would really help. So I put several on request at the library, (I love searching online and having the books ready when I go!) and patted myself on the back for being such a good Mommy.

So today, I picked up our copy of "The Kissing Hand" by Audrey Penn. The story is about a little raccoon who finds strength and confidence in venturing out and going to preschool after he and his mother form a secret kiss thingy.

Sweet, right?

Wrong.

About three pages in, Dash said, "Mommy, I don't like this book," and closed the book.

Ha!

After repeated attempts to get him interested, I finally gave up.

Oh well, at least it was a good idea in theory. Any other suggestions for fighting that preschool-dropoff-demon?
