Sunday was a busy filled with seeing lots of family and old friends, including some of my very best friends from high school (Taryn, Lydia, and Jenn). Of course, we were missing Tania (our Canadian-dwelling friend), but I'm sure she would've been there if she could!
The house-warming party for Jennifer turned out to be relaxing and enjoyable...but only after the police showed up to break into my car and retrieve my baby.
Yes, you read that correctly. At 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, I, Lauren, locked my poor innocent little baby in my parked, non-running car. I guess in my excitement to see my old pals, I jumped out of my car and locked the door --- with my keys sitting nicely in the seat and Dash sleeping in the back.
I noticed immediately, and pulled on the door as hard as any mother-who's-baby-was-stuck-in-the-car-would, but to no avail - the car door was locked, but not latched all the way, so there was room to stick a finger through. One of Jennifer's cousins tried to pry his way in with a clothes-hanger, too. And little Dash, just slept through it all.
In all honesty, this actually was "best-case scenario" for a worst-case situation. Although we were in the dead of summer heat at 4:00 p.m., there was a huge rain cloud between my car and the sun's powerful rays. Plus, for the entire drive over, I had my a/c on full blast (would you expect anything less in summer?) so my car was filled with cold air. It was hot, yes, but not nearly as hot as it normally is.
After a few minutes of Jenn's cousin trying to break into my car (where is a thief when you need one?), I called 911. This was about the time that Dash woke up and started screaming. I think he wondered why people were looking at him through the window but not getting him out! This was also the time that tears slipped from my eyes. I had peace and totally knew that Dash was - and would be ok - but the stress of the whole ordeal was a wee bit too much for me.
However, in the arms of my old high school peeps I rested until the police arrived, only minutes later. In fact, an off-duty officer who happened to be in the same apartment complex visiting his girlfriend walked over with his "break-into-cars-and-save-babies kit right before the on-duty police officer arrived.
Before I knew it, the back door was open, and Lydia said, "Go get your baby, Mama!" I grabbed my confused and sweaty little booger out, checked him once over, said thank you to the officers, and went into the a/c for some cold air, cold water, and chill time.
Praise God, Dash was 100% fine; in fact, I think he has probably gotten as hot, if not hotter, playing outside or going for a walk in the evenings. But I am so thankful to everyone who helped break into my car and comfort me and also to God for his peace and love and comfort.
Anyways, enough drama...here are a few pictures of AFTER the big event, showing that everyone was much better!

We all have our moments... and with this happy ending it will just forever be a "remember the time mommy locked you in the car?" funny blog entry... mine of course, is "remember the time mommy squirted swim ear up your nose?!"
Glad you enjoyed the rest of the day with great friends!
Lauren, you're seriously the best mom and love Dash more than anyone could PAY you to do. So this was just a weird freak blip on the radar of your awesome mom....radar. :) So sorry it happened. Glad I could be there though.
Loved seeing you and Dash on Sunday!
Love
Lyd
You know it's not a party until someone calls the cops! Just kidding;) Glad everyone is okay.
Nooo...a bad mom moment would have been if you didn't notice and went to party with your friends completely forgetting you have a baby. :) You are awesome. I have almost done that before...but mine ended with smashing my fingers in the door as it was closing... When are you coming to visit me????
Lauren, I'm so sorry/sad that the car incident happended, but you handled it SO well considering the circumstances. I hope I can keep my composure when crazy things happen to me in the future. Dash is so stinkin cute! I'm so glad I got to meet him, and see you of course! Until next time...Love-Taryn
