5 months and a First 1st Birthday Party

If you are keeping notes, Dash is now 5 months and one week old! Feeding him "solids" is going really well - he loves both rice and oatmeal cereal, sweet potatoes, and carrots. He'll eat sweet peas, but the grimace on his face tells us he'd prefer something else. Besides some congestion and a cough that he has right now, he is doing good. You put him on a blanket and he is going to roll all over.  He has lunged forward a handful of times, so I'm sure we'll have a pre-crawler on our hands in the next few weeks! Oh, and he can pretty much sit up by himself now. He does fall over still, but you can tell his abs and back are getting stronger and stronger.

Dash attended his first "1st Birthday" party. It was for a fellow fireman's son. The outside bash included some of the best authentic Mexican food I've ever tasted and the largest pinata I've ever seen. (Seriously, had this pinata landed on a small child...) Also they gave away some of the coolest party favors - these giant battery-operated iguanas that walk and bob their head. (Yes, you did just read "giant battery-operated iguana!) How will we top that for Dash's first birthday...

Since it was outside, Tyler and I thought we were being good parents by bringing a hat to cover our son's head. But, the sun is non-discriminating - our poor, innocent, little baby boy suffered his first sun-burn. Apparently, he has his mother's Irish skin. His little forearms were red. Needless to say, we now have baby sunscreen in every car and every diaper bag. (Don't judge us; we've already beat ourselves up enough for real. My only consolation is that surely, my parents slipped and accidentally allowed me to get a sun burn as a baby....and it took only a little counseling for me to get past that and forgive them. HA!)

At least you didn't let him roll off the couch....

I'm sure it will just take a few years of therapy and all will be well...
